Champaign, OH:  Hello Old Friend

As I am strolling down the garden path
I saw a flower glowing in the dark
It looked so pretty and it was unique
I had to bend down just to have a peek

Hello old friend
Really good to see you once again
Hello old friend
Really good to see you once again…
(Eric Clapton)

Gosh, it was SO good to see so many of you, today, at market pick up!! I love our chats, catching up, and sharing smiles, love, and stories.

This market and it’s customers has always seemed like just a big group of old friends. It’s just a really good feeling wrapped into a really good market, with really good vibes.

I am opening the market for another week of ordering! Please note that I had to put my products back into vacay mode because Hippie and the Farmer are hosting our first event of the season, next Friday night, on sight (I’m sure you have all seen the crazy construction, flower planting, weeding, and the now permanent tent up. We are expanding, and getting ready to unveil the new event venue! A few years in the planning, and now the excitement of the first event, next Friday night!!

ANYWAY, all that to say, I will be super busy, next week, with food prep, and baking, and working on another show stopping dessert!! So, I will be off the market!!

But, there is still so much to choose from!! Make your lists, and get your orders in!!

It’s really good to see you, once again…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

The summer season is flush with new crops fresh from the greenhouse. 8 to 10 items each week with options for 2 of those, and an exchange table. The summer basket will start June 13 week till Nov 7th week and cost $31.95 a week, times 20 weeks (or 10 weeks if bi-weekly) This year we are offering one size of basket, a little more choice and you have a bi-weekly option. Our basket typically contains 8 to 10 different organic vegetables that are freshly harvested and in season. You can choose to pick it up every week or every 2 weeks (bi-weekly). With the bi-weekly basket you will get 10 pickups/deliveries, scheduled on alternative weeks. Delivery is new for us, beta-testing so to speak. We think we can do it for $15 a week within 10km radius from the farm. If you want delivery, add $15 to the basket x number of weeks (5 or 10).
Another change for this year: vegetables are not pre-boxed. Members make up their own basket by following a blackboard list with the basket contents, and making their choices. We also provide an exchange box where you can trade unwanted items. Please bring your own bags or boxes! Our vegetable basket is a great way to reduce packaging and waste. Here are examples of what the baskets might look like at different times during the summer season.

Early: 1 head lettuce, 250 g salad mix, 1 bunch scallions, 1 bunch garlic scapes, 1 bunch turnips, 1 bunch radish, 1 bunch beets OR Tokyo Bekana mustard, 1 bunch parsley OR arugula.

Mid Summer: 1 herb choice: dill, basil, cilantro, 1 choice between: fennel, celery, cabbage, 1 bunch carrots, 1 pint cherry tomatoes, 1 bulb fresh garlic, 2 cucumbers, 2 eggplants OR 1 bunch beets, 1 quart onions, 1 quart tomatoes, lettuce.

Late Summer: 1 head lettuce, 3 red peppers, 1 kg carrots, 1 bulb garlic, 1 bunch leeks, 1 quart tomatoes, 1 celeriac OR turnips, 1 butternut squash, 1 herb choice: hot peppers, sage, thyme

Martin's Farmstand:  Blue House Work Party

The Blue House resturant In Madrid had a fire in the prep kitchen a few weeks ago. The fire investigation is finished and the huge job of cleanup and repair has begun. The structure is still intact with the fire mostly contained to one room however everything throughout the whole place is covered with a nasty sooty smoke residue along with water damage.
Yesterday we had a workday (with a small group) to start the process of removing contents.
The next step is a larger work party that is scheduled for this Thursday evening (June 8, 2023) We plan to start at 5 pm and work till 8-9 o’ clock. Come anytime in the evening as your schedule allows. The goal for the evening is to clean walls, ceilings, windows, tables chairs and everything else. Melted eletrical boxes and lights need pulled out, trim removed, some areas more sheetrock needs to come down etc.

Bring your favorite cleaning tools such as buckets, sponges etc. Power is off in the building so we need lots of work lights. Also we will need a few step ladders pry bars, screwguns etc. We are planning to serve a picnic style supper at some point during the evening. If you plan to eat, bring finger foods to share with the group. If you have questions you can call me (Daniel) @315 265 1246. This is an event that is ideal for older children and adults but it is not a good setting for small children in the building. Josh Taillon and his wife started the Blue House in Madrid just a few years ago. He is a very good cook and uses the best food he can find. He is also outstanding in trustworthyness and treats the local farmers with care and respect. They will emerge from this strong. Join us as we give a hand in helping clean up from this fire. Daniel

Champaign, OH:  My, My, Hey, Hey....

Out of the blue and into the black…
(Neil Young)

So, my my…it really IS Tuesday, and the market will be closing for orders at 8am, for the week!!

You still have time to throw us all you need for the week, and we will have it ready to go for Thursday’s pick up!!

Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There’s more to the picture than meets the eye
Hey hey, my my…

Now that you have your song, start singing while you place your last minute orders!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Martin's Farmstand:  Cucumbers and spinach

We have the first Spring seeded spinach at the stand starting today along with the first field lettuce. The lettuce heads are still teenagers so are fairly small and taste delicious. We have generous amount of cucumbers from today’s picking (about 4 bushels) We also have the normal asparagus, herbs, rhubarb scallions etc.

I hope that we get a good rain as the fields are really dry and the air seems hazy and smoky like it needs a good washing. I wonder if the smokiness could be from the wildfires in Canada.
The strawberries are not close to ready yet. They normally start around June 14-18th time window. We had a freeze a few weeks ago that damaged most of the earliest flowers so it looks like what would have been the first 1 or 2 pickings will be nothing. There are lots of small green berries on the rest of the flowers. These huge temperature swings and no rain are not ideal either so I expect a mediocre strawberry season- not disaster, not awesome. Daniel
